This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Albemarle County in Virginia Giving Some Account of What It Was by Nature of What It Was Made by Man and of Some of the Men Who Made It Edgar Woods Books

First I think the book was compiled by an ordained Reverend.

It is a wonderful work and read by many all over the world. I just got an eMail from Syria on it too.

Our families when this book was written about were in what was the wilderness then. Noticed only a few errors on our family there and then.

Col. John Harvie, Sr. passed away in 1767 a.d. and his eldest son was Richard Harvie, Not John Harvie, Jr. who by the way became the way became the fourth Mayor of Richmond, Virginia had various position's in the new American Federal Republic Government as well in the Commonwealth of Virginia too. He grew up and was close friend his/our cousin Thomas Jefferson and his brother, Randolph Jefferson who was 14 years his junior, and sisters. Col. John Harvie, Sr. was Thomas's father, Peter Jefferson Chief Executor and put Thomas into William and Mary where they instituted the Law courses then. Peter Jefferson when he got married lived in Powhatan County for about two plus years before moving west to the wilderness of what is Ablemarle and Nelson Counties today. His father was named Thomas Jefferson too.

The book does leave out any mention of Thomas Jefferson retreat and haven of Poplar Forest just a ride south over the James River.

I wonder how many notice the usage of the comma ( , ) then in this book which was a perfect normalcy.

I would say buy this book for you as well your local Free Public Library too.

PS: I remember my Grandpa Thomas Bland Harvey saying and showing me when Monticello was used as a functioning haybarn. Until they figured a way for people to part with there monies... Youall may remember him when in 1969 we were there when he lost all and so many family, friends, and loved ones in Hurricane Camile and all that World Record rain ( 37 sq.inches in five hours )when birds were even drowned in trees . He said, " It is Gods Will !" had his photo on all the front pages in the world press that day after.

God bless America!

Excellent history of Albemarle County in Virginia. Really amazed at the wealth of information and the names it lists.
Everyone doing genealogy in Albemarle County should buy this book. It is excellent. Thank you.
This book is very good background information for people analyzing Albemarle County, Virginia, for any reason, genealogy, history, etc. It helps to know the region you are researching.
It's a helpful piece for research and some confirmation about the area and ancestors.
I absolutely loved this book. If anyone is researching family who lived in Albemarle County, this book is an excellent resource book. I would recommend it highly. It is well worth the money. It is a great read for anyone even if there are no personal connections. The history in this book is wonderful!
This is the only history of Albemarle County and as such is invaluable. This one is the third one I have purchased and for a gift for daughter as we were both tired of her borrowing mine (LOL). Note - there are errors, as many local genealogists and historians, but the compiler did a very good job and put his heart in it. ~
My family comes from Virginia and was wanting more information on them. Unfortunately they were not in this book but it is still a great resource for finding information on ancestors.
